We left Colorado Sept 30th and headed for Florida, passing through New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana in a 14.5 hour drive. the next day we headed to Florida for another 10 hour drive to our honeymoon. We brought our RV on the trip and just after a week of our honeymoon we headed a few hours south east to a small town in Florida where we stayed at Dead Lakes State Recreation Area .
We also created our first youtube vlog!
We stayed at the Dead Lakes Campground for three days and had a wonderful time. It was a very affordable campground, especially considering how well it was kept up. We had full hook ups, showers, laundry, and a little trail through the thick forest. But other than that there was not a whole lot to do, so we ventured off to a nearby town called Port St. Joe. This place was very beautiful and we spent an afternoon checking out a light house and a marina.
Generally speaking, life in our camper has been pretty comfortable and not too much of an adjustment. Our air conditioner has been a huge contributer to our comfort and we are very thankful we invested in this before we began. It has actually been in the 50’s and 60’s at night, which surprised us, and so we do turn our air conditioner off when we sleep. The days are mostly in the 80’s, however, which is perfect for swimming.
Other than swimming and sight seeing, we have gotten into a bit of a routine for the mornings so that we stay productive and active. After our morning routine, we are ready to tackle any adventure we choose to. It has been a blast to see new things every day, to meet different people, and to face the ups and downs that come with living in a small house. We said many times this week, “this is so much fun,” and it is. We would give full time RV-ing for any age two big thumbs up.
Dead Lakes Recreation Area and Campground
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Comments: We loved this campground, it was very peaceful and relaxing. We would have enjoyed more privacy, however, as there was not anything to separate one camper from another other than a small strip of grass or a road. This campground was very quiet, but so much so it was almost creepy.
