Full Time Florida Camping on St George Island

We left the Dead Lakes campground in Wewahitchka and headed Southeast towards St. George Island. Upon arriving on the island, we took a little detour before reaching our campground and explored a bit. We ran into another lighthouse called the Cape St. George Light, which is a very old lighthouse that was built in 1852 and rebuilt (with many of the same bricks and structure as the original) in 2005. We enjoyed this part of Florida’s history.

See our video Vlog here:

From the St George Island Visitor center we drove to our campground located on the St. George Island State Park where we stayed for five days. The island was like a dream with the ocean on each side just a few miles away. During our time, we rode our bikes five miles one way to the end of the island. There was not much at the end except the beach, of course, with a lot of dead starfish and a ton of shells. After riding a total of ten miles to and from the end of the island, we also rode our bikes down a sandy trail near our campground later that day. The next day our brand new Sea Eagle kayak arrived and we tested it out on the gulf the following morning.

Other than relaxing and seeing the sights, we did have to put our pioneer skills to good use and hand wash all our clothes since this park did not have any laundry facilities. We also received our new inverter in the mail, and after some thoughtful work, we got it installed. We are looking forward to using this in the near future for our boondocking adventures.

So far we have adjusted really well to full-time RVing and are loving every moment of it.

St George Island State Park Campground

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Comments: We loved this campground, it was very peaceful, private and relaxing. The beach is within walking distance and there are showers and picnic tables near the ocean. The beach was very private without a lot of people on it, which we enjoyed. There are several hiking trails and boat ramps within the park that we took advantage of.
