As many of you may know by now, we are no longer traveling the U.S. in an RV. We have left that lifestyle and begun traveling abroad. So, how did we come to this decision?
Since October of last year (2017), we have been thinking about taking our travel to other countries. We absolutely love our USA, of course, but for some reason we just really wanted to see what the world was like outside of America.
After spending, hours, weeks, and months of researching, we decided that we would visit Europe first. OK, so why Europe, you may ask. To be honest, we have never traveled abroad as a couple, and we have never traveled outside of the U.S. without another person planning all the details (i.e.: our parents). Therefore, we did not want to go somewhere that we didn’t feel completely comfortable and that, to put it bluntly, would not cause too much culture shock. Our country was settled by mostly Europeans, so in a way, I suppose we felt like we were just visiting our ancestor’s countries.
Also, out of all the languages that we could speak, we have been learning German. Don’t ask us why, because we’re really not sure. I guess it just sounds cool. Since we are/were learning German, we decided to visit a German speaking country (also because we have a lot of interest in the history of WWII). We looked at Germany for a while, but eventually decided to go to Austria instead.
We came to this decision in the middle of May. In order to carry out our plans, we needed to go back to Colorado where we could put all of our things in storage, sell our RV, and say “hello” and “goodbye” to our families and friends. So, we spread a 17 hour drive out over two days (spending one night in Dumas, Texas), leaving Texas and arriving in Colorado in the beginning of July. We spent about 3 weeks in Colorado before flying out of Denver to London near the end of July.
Although the manner in which we are traveling has changed, we are still living our spontaneous lifestyle and enjoying learning new things about new places. The following few blogs will be about our adventures in Europe – stay tuned!
